Oral Blog Entry - Film Review

"The Fellowship of Rings" told about in the old times of Middle Earth, the dark lord Sauron created a ring which could rule the other nine rings. This ancient Ring was thought lost for centuries, but has been found and been given to a small Hobbit named Frodo. He had to make an epic quest to the Cracks of Doom to destroy it. He was not alone but was joined by Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three Hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise. They walked through mountains, snow, darkness, forests, rivers and plains, facing evil and danger. But they knew the Fellowship of the Ring must go. Their quest to destroy the One Ring is the only hope for the end of the Dark Lords reign.

"The Fellowship of Rings" is one part of the whole story. This novel was written by J.R.R. Tolkien and the film was directed by NZ famous director Peter Jackson. And this film was produced in NZ and won 4 Oscars.

If you see this film, you will not only enjoy the beautiful pictures but also you will be caught by plots.

Text Blog Entry - Story Review

I borrowed a book “Audrey Hepburn” from Unitec Library which is written by Chris Rice. Audrey Hepburn was a famous actress and I like her very much, especially her role in Roman Holiday. She was wonderful in Gigi and this film made Audrey world famous. So I chose this book to know more about her real life.

She was born in Brussels On May 4, 1929. Her mother was Dutch and her father was half English, half Irish. She looked very happy in her movies, but real life made her not so happy.

She was not happy during her childhood because her parents often fought. Audrey Hepburn was a ballet dancer, but she never danced in a ballet. She got two periods of marriage. She married Mel Ferrer in Switzerland in 1954 but devoiced in 1967. Then she married Italian doctor, Andrea Dotti in 1969. She left Dotti in 1979 when she heard about her husband’s girlfriends. In her opinion, family is always more important than her movies.

She had different roles in many films and she won some rewards. She won an Oscar for Best Actress in Roman Holiday and she won a Tony for Best Actress in Ondine.

She died in 1993 when she was sixty-four. The world loved her. People love her now, years after she died.

That is it. The real life is not always like what is showed. But I will remember this pretty and lovely Gigi.

Text Blog Entry - Diploma Trip

I went on our first Diploma trip with my classmates last Tuesday. The trip was organized very well.

On that morning, after I picked up Jean and Vivian, we started our journey. Firstly, following Jan’s instructions, we drove to Titirangi Village to meet other classmates. We arrived there a little bit earlier so that we could have some time to look around. On that day, the weather was so good, the village was so peaceful and the air was so fresh, I really wanted to stay longer.

After we had our breakfast, we went to Huia Point. Because it was my first time driving on hill road, I felt very nervous and stressful. Fortunately, Sally was very familiar with there and she was very patient to lead us. So, we arrived there very safely though it took longer than others. It was a very beautiful place, where we could see the whole view of the sea.

Then we went to Cornwalls Beach. It was a very nice, peaceful beach. We saw some black sand which had some iron inside. I really enjoyed walking on the beach and chatting with each other. It was a great time that we could get to know each other more.

Finally we shared our lunch, which were very rich and delicious. I will never forget that salad, which was so yummy. After lunch, some classmates went fishing, some went home and we chose to stay on beach for a while to enjoy the nature. We left there at about 3 o’clock.

Yes, it was a wonderful trip and I really enjoyed it.

Oral Blog Entry - Domestic News Headlines

Mel asked us to listen to the news on National Radio on Monday 30th April.

"Well let's look at the front page on Press which the main story is the government is looking the ways to tackle truancy numbers. The story says last year average 30,000 children a day skip to classes."

Consonant to vowel linking--"main", "average"
Extra liking sound --"the ways"
Weak forms--"the ways", "to classes"

Text Blog Entry Five - My Break

I really want to say these two weeks holiday kept me very busy. All my original plans went away like foamflowers. I also had very bad luck.

First of all, I got my first time car accident. One old lady’s car kissed my car’s behind on New North Road. I felt very frustrated and little bit nervous because it was the first time for me being caught in this situation. It kept me busy on contacting insurance company and driving to the garage.

Secondly, my car’s window was broken when I parked at AUT city campus on Friday night and my bag was stolen. Oh, New Zealand isn't paradise.

Finally, my expensive washing machine was broken by my flatmate’s wrong using. She connected the drain hose with the intake switch. The fall tube inside the washing machine was broken and whole garage was covered by water. It was terrible. And the maintenance might cost more than two hundred dollars.

Anyway, bad luck is always followed by good one. I hope the bad luck leaves me alone.

Oral Blog Entry Seven - Diploma Lecture 2 (First Aid)

The lecture on May 8 was given by Dave Griffiths about First Aid.

Above of all, he told us what to do when somebody needs help. First of all, call 111 ( by the way, this is a free number). Usually, it will take 35 minutes. Before the amblance arrives, give them first aid.
When you begin to give somebody first aid, you should stop and think am I safe and do I need some barriers such as gloves or plastic bags before you move. And also you should look at their feelings. If their breath are difficult, you can use CPR to help them. The ways of CPR are different depending on who you are helping. If they are adults, please use two hands, if they are children, please use one hand and if they are infants, please just use two fingers.

He also mentioned that if a child is bleeding, we should use red bandages to cover the wound because they will be scare of death.

Finally, he said, in our country we will not be responsible for the death of the person we help. But in USA, the rule is different. Therefore, please give a hand when they need help.

All in all, first Aid is very important for everyone.
